Poet Nazrul in Daulatpur

Muradnagar upazila is associated with the memory of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The poet composed many poems and songs at Daulatpur in the Bangra (East) Union of this upazila. From April to June 1921 he was at Ali Akbar Khan's house in Daulatpur. He had an affair with Nargis, Khan's niece. They later tied the knot. Many places including ponds, mango trees, fields and Nargis houses in Daulatpur village are associated with Nazrul's memory. On the birth and death anniversary of the poet, various events are organized here at the initiative of the local administration. These programs organized by the district administration breathe new life into the cultural atmosphere of the upazila.
