At that time the name of this police station was Thorla. In 18 it was renamed Muradnagar. No exact information is available about the naming of Muradnagar upazila. However, there are rumors that Murad, the youngest son of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, came to the area at some point. According to him, the area has been named Muradnagar. Also, according to many, Muradnagar is originally named after Mir Murad Ali, who was a revenue collector of the then British rule. The following songs composed by the poet are found in Muradnagar Upazila, which is associated with the memory of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
