Nazrul in Comilla
Poet Tirtha Daulatpur is a place where the memory of national poet Kazi Nazrul and his wife Nargis is intertwined. In 1921 (Bangla 23 Chaitra 1327) Nazrul Islam came to Daulatpur in Muradnagar via Comilla and stayed there for 61 days. Nazrul composed 160 songs and 120 poems while sitting in Daulatpur. Notable poems include 'Bedna-Abhiman', 'Abela', 'Anadrita', 'Pathik Priya', 'Bidaay Bela' etc.
The bright footsteps of the poet have made Comilla glorious. Until 1924, the poet came to Comilla 5 times. In these 5 times he spent more than 11 months in Daulatpur of Muradnagar upazila of Comilla city and district.
The first time was until July 8. He came for the second time in November 1921 till December. The third time he came was from February 1922 to June, the fourth time from October 1922 to November 23, the fifth time was the last time the poet came to December 1923, the date of departure is unknown. Evidence of his visit has been the poetry books like Dolanchapa, Agniveena, Chayanat, Jhingeful, Puber Hawa etc. Kabir was arrested twice in the district starting from his marriage. Premila Devi's house, poetry festival on the west bank of Dharmasagar, Arrested in Jhautla, Basanta Smriti Library, Nanua Dighir Par, Daroga Bari, Yusuf School Road, Mahesangan, Comilla Birchandra Nagar Auditorium and Field, Sachin Dev Barman's house in Dakshin Chartha, Nawab's house, Nawab Memoirs of the poet are scattered in many places including Nath Dutt's house, Nazrul Avenue, Kandirpar, Jhautla, Ranir Dighir Par, Railway Station, Kotwali Thana, Comilla Central Jail and Daulatpur in Muradnagar.
Daulatpur was the house of Ali Akbar Khan where Nazrul stayed.
The poet first came to Comilla from Daulatpur village of Muradnagar upazila. At the invitation of Ali Akbar Khan, a former poet of this village. He married Syeda Nargis Ara Khanam, daughter of poet Ali Akbar Khan's sister, on 16 June of the same year. Which was the first marriage of his life.

But for some unknown reason, the poet left Daulatpur at night and moved to Comilla. While staying at the house of poet Indkumar Sen in the city, he met Ashalata Sengupta alias Pramila, the only daughter of his nephew Girila Devi, and they were married on 25 April 1924 in Calcutta. He was arrested in Comilla in November 1921 for singing anti-British songs. The poet was arrested for the second time on 23 November 1922 from Jhautla in the city. The last poet came to Comilla for the fifth and last time after his release from jail on 16 December 1923.
1972 The then Deputy Commissioner of Comilla, the poet Abu Jafar Obaidullah named the Kandirpar-Dharmapur railway station road Nazrul Avenue. In 1983, white stone plaques were erected at places commemorating the poet with the initiative of the then Deputy Commissioner Syed Aminur Rahman and the financial support of the District Council. Poet's songs, poems, rhymes and sayings are highlighted on these fruits.
